Weeks 49, 50 and 51: Book slumps, but almost done!

Hello Everyone,

It has been quite a while since I said hello to you all! In the last three weeks I have been insanely busy with work and family, but I haven’t forgotten my blog, or the fact that this is the last week of this challenge (eek!)

I also wanted to give Iris Graville a big shout out for mentioning me on her site a few weeks ago. I have her book, Hiking Naked on my TBR, and am looking forward to digging into it soon!

This week I have one book to share with you – I have a few I am reading at the moment, but for whatever reason they are not grabbing me at the moment. However, I was so excited to get to the book I finished!

In the next week or so, I will also be sharing some thoughts on this year as a whole and also updating you all on where I am heading next – I will be leaving this site up, but moving to a new website, but I will definitely continue writing!

Books I finished

Tempests and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce

I have already talked about my love for the Tortall novels earlier this year, and when I realized her most recent book had come out, I had to grab it. What I love most about these novels is that they are interesting and feel substantial, but are also easy to read when I am tired or not in the mood for anything too intense.

This is the backstory of Numair, a character we first met in The Immortals quartet. You don’t need to have read the earlier books, but I would recommend that you do because they are so good! I will say that having gotten used to Pierce’s well thought out explorations of what it means to come of age as a woman, her male perspective is less compelling.

However, this does not detract much from this book, which has all the elements that make her books so wonderful, from magic to explorations of value and human goodness.

What went well

Although I have only finished one book, I have been slowly but steadily reading a number of books over the past few weeks. Most importantly, I picked up some great ones I am excited about over the past few weeks.

What did not go well

I really wanted to read more and to update my blog more over the past few weeks. It has been tough to find the time to write and I have been frustrated, especially since this project is coming to a close so soon.

What I am reading this week

I have two books I want to finish this week: The Fruit of the Drunken Tree and The Hate U Give. They are both great books, but the subject matters are heavy, and I have had to really push myself to read them, despite enjoying them. Hopefully, I will finish them off so I can move on to books I am more excited about!
